How to improve your EE points...

Paul Kelly

Probably one of the most common questions in Canadian immigration...

"How can I improve my EE (CRS) points?"

Here's our quick 3 point guide...

  • Language - probably the 'easiest' and fastest way to attempt to gain more CRS points is to provide new language test results. It sounds obvious, but the higher the results on the test (most common being IELTS or CELPIP), the higher the CRS points. For those aiming for high results the magic threshold is minimum of CLB9 because the maximum points are then potentially available in 'skill transferability' sections. For a full review of IELTS/CELPIP to CLB levels can be viewed here https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/corporate/publications-manuals/operational-bulletins-manuals/standard-requirements/language-requirements/test-equivalency-charts.html

  • Education - although not easy (or quick or cheap) to improve you education by taking a new credential, for some this may be an option. More accessible could be checking you have an ECA for your non-Canadian credential(s) and ensuring you have the highest evaluation possible (not all ECA's are the same!) - if you are are unsure, contact us.

  • Hire an expert - many candidates can navigate the EE system, often with some doubts remaining. However, we see many candidates make errors that lead to either under-evaluation and missing out, or over-evaluation and then later refusals. Hiring an RCIC (like us) can not only save time and stress but can ensure that your profile is accurate and can minimize risk and later complications. Of course professional immigration advice comes at a cost, but balanced against the risks of errors or refusal on application it may be a good investment in your future in Canada.

If you need any advice or guidance on your EE profile or you don't know where to start, reach out to us for help and we will get you on-track with your Canadian immigration journey!
